Public Consultation May 2009

We recently held a public consultation on the future of the Foxton Locks site. Our proposals included the re-building the working boat lift and also other projects. We are currently in the process reviewing all the comments and recommendations we received as part of the consultation and will publish a summary of our masterplan by the end of the year.

Completed projects since 2005

  • The pub, the Foxton Locks Inn re-opened in May 2005, having been fully refurbished and extended.
  • New short stay car parks and access road have been built to the Bottom Locks.
  • The Top Lock cottage was restored in 2005 and is now a refreshment and information centre.
  • A public lavatory and boaters’ facility building is now open and located in the bottom carpark
  • Trees were removed from the Inclined Plane to stop their roots from damaging the historic structure. For the first time in almost a century visitors can now see right down the plane, allowing them to picture how it must have looked in its heyday
  • The privately-operated boatyard has relocated from beside the pub. Planning permission was granted for a new workshop in 2002, the date for its completion is being decided.
  • Over 2,500 trees were planted in November 2004 as part of National Tree Week
